Tribute
Created by Sarah 8 years ago
Pete was someone we all had the
great privilege of knowing, He was the person you depended upon and he came to
our rescue many times, his family was everything to him and he was happiest
with his girls and grandsons around him. He was so encouraging and supportive
and loving. Lynn and Sarah have such
wonderful memories of their dad. He was Lynn's and Sarah best friend and he is
a very hard act to follow.
Pete was hilarious and so loyal,
every Christmas, during family quizzes he could not choose a side to join, and
would infuriate Lynn, Sarah and Val by shouting out the answers for both teams,
consequently, there was never a winning team. I remember he used to get a lot
of tellings off!
He was such an intelligent man,
yet so unassuming, even with very little speech left, not so long ago, when
Lynn was talking to him about a favourite song from an Italian opera, he was
able, not only to tell her the title of the song but to translate it from
Italian into English and explain its meaning. Who knew?
He was so brave and
uncomplaining, and accepting of his condition.
He didn't say why me? He said, why not me.
Pete was the most courageous man
that I have met, even when PSP robbed him of his speech, and he had lost
everything else in his body he never gave up on his sense of humour and he
still had the ability to make us all laugh. That says something of the
character of Pete, he always tried to make it alright for everyone else. As
long as his family were having a good time he was ok.
Pete was an amazing man, and I
think I can say he made our lives better and richer for knowing him, in Lynn
and Sarah's words they will miss him every day but will always be grateful for
the privilege of being loved by him and having him as our Dad and our best
friend.
Max and Joe have written their
own tributes to Grandad:
Max's Tribute
My grandad was a fantastic,
courageous, brave, kind, loving, caring and extremely handsome man. My parents take after him. In the nearly ten years I've known him he has
been an absolutely fantastic grandfather to me. I've leaned a phenomenal amount
about him and I am fascinated by his great personality. When he tragically became poorly I have tried
my 100% best to help my mum to look after him.
All I try to think about now is the good, happy, joyful times we had
together. I remember when he used to
feed the Badgers digestive biscuits, that still makes me smile. I love him so much.
Joe's Tribute
My grandad was a kind, generous,
lovely man and I don't blame him for having Mohammad Ali as a hero, he's having
a match with him right now, up in heaven.
(I used to say to him Ello Treacle).
He used to come with us and have a picnic at Conker Lane, he brought
kindness to our family, also he bought me at guitar. He is now the brightest star in heaven.
